Western UP Healthcare Access Coalition
Client A sought
the help of the W UP Healthcare Access Coalition in March of 2010. She had been uninsured and knew that she had
health issues that should be addressed by a physician, such as diabetes and
high blood pressure. Due to limited
income, scheduling and paying for a doctor’s appointment was difficult for
her. She was relieved to qualify for
help from the healthcare Access Coalition, since she became eligible to see her
doctor at no charge. Additionally,
Client A could also access limited diagnostic testing and generic prescriptions
prescribed by her healthcare provider.
In the summer of
2011, Client A was diagnosed as having stage III ovarian cancer as well as
colon cancer. She was put in touch with
an oncology provider who agreed to see her on an in-kind basis, and with the
help of WUPHAC was able to access medications needed to treat her condition.
Client A was
recently approved for Social Security Disability and now has Medicare coverage,
but credits the work of WUPHAC in helping her reach this point saying, “The
prescription assistance was needed and very much appreciated”.
