THE COPPER COUNTRY UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN
While CCUW accepts donations year-around, it annually conducts an active and advertised campaign starting mid-September and ending the last day of February.
During the campaign many businesses offer employees the option of giving through payroll deduction programs . . . an option where a significant donation can be spread "painlessly" over the year. Giving through payroll deduction is United Way's long-time signature advantage in raising funds for local services, an option that no other giving opportunity or organization offers.
A number of businesses also offer their employees opportunities to contribute through internal fundraising activities such as Jeans' Day, bake sales, or similar events.
Donations can also be made directly to the CCUW office. Click here for more information on making a donation.
Remember what is given here, stays here. All donations to CCUW go to support the human service programs of our Partner Agencies which offer services in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties.
GIVING TO THE CCUW CAMPAIGN HELPS THOSE IN NEED IN THE COPPER COUNTRY
CCUW's Partner Agencies annually respond to almost 40,000 requests for assistance in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties. CCUW funding is important in helping these agencies provide a multitude of services to the community.
By giving through CCUW, your donation goes to support many critical services such as:
- helping feed and care for those who are hungry or need shelter
- providing guidance for those suffering from Alzheimer's and help for their caregivers
- staffing crisis telephone lines
- responding to critical needs mentoring youth and helping them with character-building skills
- teaching good parenting skills and counseling families
- sheltering domestic violence victims and counseling victims of crime
- providing alcohol and drug counseling support and training the disabled
Many more services than listed above are available. Click here to review the many services our Partner Agencies provide.
In a community as small as ours, it is important to remember those needing help can easily be your neighbor down the street, your friends, your own family members, or even yourself. Your help provides hope, good fortune and blessings for those needing the services provided by our agencies!
Please consider giving to this year's campaign. And remember, what is given here, stays here!
GIVING TO THE CCUW CAMPAIGN HELPS BUILD A STRONGER COMMUNITY
In addition to responding to those in need in our community, the services provided by our Partner Agencies help keep crime and poverty rates lower here in the Copper Country.
The Partner Agencies also provide opportunities for volunteerism and service for those who wish to donate time, spend money on supplies and services from local businesses, and provide employment opportunities.
Supporting these agencies through CCUW helps build a better, safer, healthier, more economically-stable community . . . a community which benefits everyone who lives here . . .a community where we help each other and Live United!
GIVING THROUGH CCUW ADDS EXTRA VALUE TO YOUR DOLLAR
Did you know your donation to CCUW's campaign brings in more funding to the community than what the campaign actually raises?
Yes it is true! The amount you donate to the CCUW campaign can have a greater value to any of our Partner Agencies than a direct contribution to that agency.
CCUW dollars are often used by our Partner Agencies to leverage, or qualify for, grant monies from businesses, corporations, government programs, or other sources. Many times these grant sources will match community support monies - represented by CCUW funds - at more than 50% or even at 100%. Not only does the grant give additional financial support to the Partner Agency, it benefits our local economy by bringing more money into the community.
GIVING THROUGH CCUW GUARANTEES FUNDING IS USED AS PROMISED
When you donate through the CCUW campaign, you know your money will be going to a qualified and legitimate agency. CCUW Partner Agencies must apply and be approved annually for CCUW funding through a strict application process. At minimum, Partner Agencies must:
- hold an IRS 501C3 non-profit status
- be governed by a volunteer Board of Directors
- be licensed to solicit in Michigan be audited annually by a CPA firm
- operate at a reasonable cost
- guarantee the donations received from the CCUW campaign are spent locally for the services offered in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties.
